RELEASES ~ DORPSSTRAAT 3 - DANS MET ONS
Dorpsstraat 3 are back at it, pairing vintage rhythm boxes with driving baselines, but this time accompanied by an acoustic piano rather than the usual layers of synthesizers. Telling the tale of a poet who wrote
the most beautiful sentence someone has ever written and who celebrates by getting drunk and dancing with the statues in his home. The more you get to know, the more you start to question the reliability of the
narrator who started talking to statues. Has he lost his mind, or have you? For he is not the only one hearing the call of the statues to come dance with them. Going down a new road sonically, but still recognizable
as Dorpsstraat 3, ‘Dans Met Ons’ can at moments be both uplifting and ominous at the same time.
Koper is a cover of Dutch band de Kift, who were influential for Merlijn to start singing in Dutch when he started writing for Dorpsstraat 3 in late 2020. De Kift belongs to Merlijn’s first music memories and he
has been singing Koper every show to warm up his voice so in a way this has been a long time coming. Featuring banjo and acoustic piano, this song doesn’t sound like anything Dorpsstraat 3 have put out in the
past. The song feels dreamier, but doesn’t lose tension due to the way they add and take away layers during the whole song. Wanting to end the song on a more introverted tone than the way the original ends with
an added choir, they called in Syd Yap to sing on the ending.
