RELEASES ~ DJ DINGO SUSI - AIR FORCE ONE
As Benjamin Wild's 10-year anniversary under the moniker DJ Dingo Susi is approaching, his third full-length album (and second out on Geertruida), titled 'Air Force One',
shifts the Dingo universe in a slightly new direction.
Familiar sounds and elements were enriched by disctinct influences from Punk and Synth Pop, while continuity in instrumentation and production make the album a homogenic,
although intense, listening-experience.
The name of the album was decided early on in May 2016, when the first two songs were finished and it became apparent that what felt like a somewhat bold sound, needed a
bold title as a front.
One of the songs dealt with a surreal celebrity figure, named Mango Man, and the other dealt with a president experiencing an existential crisis.
Note: None of this was inspired with current politics in mind - it came as mythological, symbols, dreams, a small story, possibly happening in some parallel universe.
In that other place and time, the Air Force One, carrying not only the President, but also other illustrous characters, each in their own twilight moment, is going down
over a big body of water.
As more songs came flowing, Wild took the liberty to fall back on that scenario, when immediacy in music-making quickly required a new set of lyrics.
This is not a concept album – rather a bunch of songs non-chronologically meditating on one common theme from different perspectives.
And then there are songs that don't deal with that vision at all – so no need to overthink.
Just fasten your seat-belt when you embark on this hour-long beautiful, sad-yet-somehow-optimistic trip.
