Saturn retrograde makes time feel slower but it is an illusion, ethereal non temporary synths inspired by my favourite, Broadcast.
Saturn makes you face your deepest feelings, fears and emotions and tries pushing you into a different place, hopefully a better one, which for Chypko is the grounding of the vulnerability of acoustic fingerpicking guitars, my roots, a lot of folk 60’s singer- song writers, Vashti Bunyan, Sibylle Baier, Joni Mitchell, Arthur Lee, John Fahey. And jumping forward to the 90’s, Blonde Redhead, Mazzy Star, Melody’s Echo Chamber.
That is what Chypko tried doing with these songs, intuitively steering up some unpleasant feelings while trying to keep in mind that there is sunshine after all, a cathartic process that led me to a better place, that is what matters the most and hope people can relate to the most, Hello darkness my friend.
Recorded in the summer of 2022 in Far Out Sound Studio (on tape) and all synths at Worm Studio in Rotterdam.
This album represents for me a period of darkness with hints of hope and lightness in between. Chypko's composition tends to be melancholic yet summery.
The 'Dizzy Rings of Saturn' cassette is also included in edition #36 of the Geertruida Cassette Club.
