ARTISTS ~ THE EARWURMS
The Earwurms is an Amsterdam 'conceptual punk' band, coincidentally consisting of three women. Eight years ago they played together for the first time at the talent show of the Montessori Lyceum Amsterdam. Since then they
have grown into a band that plays a lot within the local activist music scene in Amsterdam. Recently they found themselves on larger stages throughout the country such as Paradiso, DB’s and Vera.
The band sees their identity broader than just the musical aspect. They create stage outfits, video clips, posters and visuals, increasingly working together with other makers. Little by little the universe they create is
expanded.
In their music they discuss the everyday; The aspects that are seen as unimportant are used and mixed with the complex feelings of the band members. They investigate how, as women, their lives are colored and how they
can deal with the confusion that comes with it.
The style of the band is inspired by no wave, riot girrrl, punk, math rock and experimental art rock. Due to the diversity of influences, the music is an assemblage of sounds. This fits perfectly with the layered
substantive theme of the music. With hearty words and a 'shebang' of sound they worm their way into your ears.
