ARTISTS ~ CIEL
Ciel [pronunciation: sjɛl] and translating to 'sky', is the moniker of Dutch artist Michelle Hindriks.
For her first EP Hindriks locked herself in her rehearsal basement, far away from everything. Here she started to explore new influences and sounds, primarily guided by her
subconsciousness rather than by logic, searching for revival of past sound.
The songs are a sort of shoegazey trip dominated by the chorus and guitar lines of her Jaguar and dreamscape vocals, with dark tribal beats cascading the backing rhythm. She
describes the music as something similar to Deerhunter, Fever Ray or Blonde Redhead.
Live CIEL plays an eclectic mix of experimental beats, energetic live drums, warm analogue synthpads and shoegaze guitar licks. The first EP "Anxiety" will be released later
in 2017 via Geertruida and Tree Machine Records (USA).
